Installing RealPlayerDMS streams audio and video materials using Real and QuickTime. Real files have an .rm extension and should be clearly identified as such on your course website. You must have the RealPlayer software installed on your computer to play Real files. The RealPlayer software is available for Windows, Macintosh and UNIX operating systems. RealNetworks offers two versions of this software, RealOne, which is free, and RealOne Superpass, which is not free. RealOne is all that is required to play Real files streamed by DMS. Most of the computer labs on campus will already have the latest version of RealPlayer installed. However, if you are trying to access Real files from off-campus, you may need to install the software on your own computer.
Minimum System Requirements for RealPlayerThe minimum system requirements for RealPlayer change from version to version. Please check Real's website for the latest system requirements (Windows, Mac). Downloading RealPlayerYou can download the free version of RealPlayer from Real's website. You have to look a little harder to find the free player download because Real wants you to try/buy the full version. Remember: you do not have to purchase any software to access files created by DMS. If your system does not meet the requirements for the latest version of RealPlayer you can download a legacy version of the software.
Troubleshooting RealPlayerYou should refer to the Help Menu on the RealPlayer client or Real's Support Page for the most up-to-date troubleshooting information. Remember that restarting your computer may solve any problems you might be experiencing, without any further troubleshooting.
